craft night part II

More photography from the half-broken camera, posted well after it was shot. Craft night is a wonderful monthly event that introduced me to some of the finest women in Richmond. After our first event making terrariums, we significantly upped the ante by deciding to decorate shoes. We had a few inspiration images from DIY blogs- these and these but mostly these fun wedges. After initial fears, everyone dove in and create their own unique shoes. Our next craft night is already coming up this weekend so it's high time I shared these!

weekend review: bffs

These photos were taken when my camera was broken. The lens worked fine but the back screen where I could see what the pictures actually looked like was out of service. They are, however, the only photographs I have my lovely friend Laura, of Skirts and Suits.

Laura and I were assigned to be roommates by some higher power at Cornell University. Four years and four dorms/apartments later, she moved to New Jersey just outside of The City and I moved back South. In high school in Baltimore, Laura had a good friend Diana. Diana, Laura and I had some good times in Bmore during college years then happenstance (aka love) brought Diana to Richmond. With our powers combined, we finally convinced Laura to visit.

We lunched near Diana's work at Lehja. The decor was an interesting mashup of modern furniture and Indian patterns, some of which were clearly homemade. While I can't verify authenticity, I ordered my favorite saag aloo and it was delicious.

The next day we went to a food and wine festival at Innsbrook. We enjoyed several samples of grocery store wine while pursuing the various wares for sale. Neither the beer or wine were impressive, and while most of the restaurants were either chains or standard street fair, I enjoyed the always delicious Boka Takos and the newcomer Goatocado.

We rounded out the evening with drinking margaritas on Diana's (former) Fan porch, followed by Thai food. Check out Diana's shoes, she painted them herself. More on that coming soon.

life update

Posting has been inconsistent over the past month, partially due to my camera being broken and then sent off to repairs but also because there have been some big changes in my life. I've left my job and am preparing for a move to the West Coast. I plan to continue to the blog as I move and settle into my new city, appropriate since it was started as I learned to love Richmond.

I am sad to leave Richmond. I hope I have shown some of the magic of this Southern city that I have discovered. I'll have a few more Richmond posts before I join the Partner-in-Crime in the Bay Area and begin again making a new city home. Over the next month or two as I live in transition, spending time at home and the beach with family, last visits to Richmond, DC and maybe New York posts may be infrequent but there are a few way to keep track of my adventures, musing and just pictures I enjoy.

sorry for the lack of posts

A broken camera has kept me from posting several events I would have loved to share. There will be no new posts for the next week while I'm home in North Carolina for my brother's wedding but when I return there will be a very exciting update!
