personal style, a little bit of everything

"I have the honor of interviewing talented designers for each issue of Rue Magazine, and a question I frequently ask is “how do you define your personal style?” There is often a long pause, as this question can be difficult. Yet flipping through each designer’s website, their personal style becomes obvious, even if it is hard to label.

Glancing around my own apartment, I wonder if my own style is as visible. My closet is easy. My fashion sense is somewhere between Audrey Hepburn and Katharine Hepburn. My dream home? A combination of Marcel Beuer and Antoni Gaudí… with a dash of Louis XIV."

I had the honor about writing about my confusing, conflicting, and perhaps undefinable personal style for Rue Magazine. Read it on page 40 of our latest issue and I promise the rest of the issue is just as delightful.

My office on Glitter Guide

Yesterday I had the honor of having my office featured on Glitter Guide alongside several of my Rue colleagues and other amazing business women. While still very much a work in progress I love my little office and was excited to share. Plus amazing photographer and friend Anna Marks shot my space and made it look amazing.

We only got to share one image on Glitter Guide so my other favorites are below the jump. Then head over to Glitter Guide to read my tips for staying organized.

new collection launched

Recently I shot my newest collection of jewelry with the help of three amazingly talented women- Kelli Ryder, my teammate at Rue and a talented stylist, Anna Marks, an wonderful photographer, and Sarah Long of Sarah's Ambitions, shown here as my stunning model.

I'm thankful that they got a great reception at the Rue office and our Editor-in-Chief chose to give a sneak peek of the still-in-development lookbook on Rue Daily. I've saved my favorite images for Rue so hurry over and check it out.

Then get your summer shopping done online on my online shop or BRIKA.

rue pop up shop on brika

For the past few months I've been selling percent jewelry on the amazing online shopping site, BRIKA.  The two founders, Jen and Kena, carefully select each artisan on the site so I'm honored to be included. This week, I'm twice as excited because Rue Magazine is hosting a Pop Up Shop on BRIKA. (My jewelry is included, check out the top center!) I love that these two parts of my life have come together, and I even got to interview Jen and Kena for Rue Daily. I love what they have to say about taking a big leap to pursue their passion and A Well Crafted Life.

Hurry over to BRIKA, there is a ton more to see but the shop is only up until April 22!

the big reveal: rue daily

I've been dying to share this news and technical difficulties made me wait even longer, so I am bursting to stay, Rue Magazine has gone Daily. While we'll still publish a full length magazine regularly (8 issues per year) we'll also have daily content each week day. I'm very excited to be writing more and to be creating more of a dialogue with the Rue community.

Above are a few images from already published stories. (We've stocked up on good ones to get started!) We'll be sharing the same great content as the magazine- interiors and styling, fashion, and DIY plus food, interviews with designers and tastemakers and more!

Visit us at Rue Daily!

two new way to find percent jewelry + a new rue

[Happy Halloween!]
I have three sweet treats today. Monday I spent the morning visiting various city and state government buildings in order to officially secure my business license for both jewelry and design services. This step has been a long time coming and I'm thrilled to finally take on clients for design consulting and also be able to sell my jewelry in stores. But don't worry, you can still always visit my Etsy shop.

In fact, I've already accepted my first store! 5th Stitch Collective is a great boutique with a mix of handcrafted and curated clothing, jewelry and gifts. It's located at 2352 Market in the Castro in San Francisco. I'm honored to be part of their collection.

Plus, I'll be selling this Friday at Art Murmur/First Fridays in Oakland. You can find me at Uptown Fenders (401 26th Street) from 6-10pm. I haven't done a craft fair since this summer so I'm thrilled to get to interact with shoppers and hear feedback on all the new pieces. Stop by and say hello!

Finally, see the spooky cover up there? The newest Rue came out today. So many great stories in there, including the Halloween fashion shoot that gave us our cover image.

rue turns two

Rue turned two today! Our second anniversary issue launched this morning and I am so proud of our team. Look for my byline on 'Treehouse in the Sky.' My absolute favorite story? The amazing modern Hitchcock themed fashion shoot shown on our cover. Lovely!

international rue launch

The newest Rue has launched, and this issue is all about travel! I had a blast writing for this issue and day dreaming about trips to take someday. Chloe from MiH Jeans (pg 24) was a delight and I actually got to speak with her over the phone while she was in Turkey, but Belgian photographer An's home in Malaysia (pg 118) was my favorite because her home is so clearly a reflection of her love and passions.

Take your own mini-trip with 144 pages of around the world inspiration!

the cream: wedding registry tips

[Images are by Birds of a Feather via 100 Layer Cake.]

I feel the need to preface this post with a disclaimer. These tips do not apply to my life at the moment. These tips were developed not for personal use but for The Cream, a fabulous wedding professionals event earlier this month in LA. If you are planning a wedding- yours or someone else's- check out The Cream. These photos are dreamy enough even if are not wedding inclined to provide inspiration for your next party, redecorating your home, or the perfect present for a friend.

With the help of Disregarden Vintage Furniture Rental and Rebeca Buenk Styling, Rue partnered with Heath Ceramics to present a wedding registry styled to look like the gifts have just arrived in the newlywed's home. As a takeaway for the brides at The Cream to assist in creating their own dream registry, I compiled a set of tips which I am excited to share with all of you!

Thank you to everyone who gave me advice from their registry experience, since I have none. Ladies who have registered, are there other tips you'd give? And all of us can dream about our top homeware items!

new rue, featuring yours truly

The new issue of RUE came out this week and I have not one but two(!) copy lines. It's crazy to think that I started my internship less than a week before last issue came out. I'm having a blast seeing the behind the scenes for how this incredible magazine is put together. It certainty is not easy, but Anne, Crystal, Bri, and Cassandra pour so much love into RUE and it's visible on every page.

My articles can be found starting on page 38 and page 96 but don't just read mine! I love Desert Horizon shopping guide (peach and navy!) and the boating photoshoot. Which inspire you?

RUE party at GAP

[So cute.]
Last night RUE hosted a party with GAP to celebrate their Styld.by collaboration and I must say it was a smashing success. I got to witness the backstage action as it all came together but really, the wonderful women at RUE and the amazing talent they brought in for the night deserve all the credit. I can't wait to see the Smilebooth photos but here a few shoots I took before hitting the dance floor.

[Adorable details were everywhere!]

[And could these ladies be any cuter?]

[Could they? No. They could not be.]

the magic of twitter

A few weeks ago, you may have seen me post something on twitter that looked like this:

If you were confused, it was in response to this:

Which resulted in this:

Yes. Those are my fingers. No. I have not become a hand model (the current burn from the oven on my right hand should prevent that.) Instead, I have started an internship for Anne Sage, a wonderful blogger, stylist, and Executive Editor of Rue Magazine. Last Friday we had a wonderful time shooting the Valentine's Survival Guide that is featured on pages 34-36 of the just released issue of Rue Magazine. Our photographer, Molly DeCoudreaux, was a trooper, making our shoot super fun even while she felt under the weather. Check out the rest of the shoot!
